I'm YOUR Realtor, Not a Random Name on Zillow 🏡📱

There’s an ugly truth buyers don’t always realize - or choose to ignore. It’s the phenomenon of agent hopping - where buyers bounce from agent to agent until they happen to land on the one who shows them “the right house at the right time.” And guess who gets paid in that situation? Not the one who stuck it out, explained the market, booked your tours, followed up, and advocated for you. Nope. It’s the one who just so happened to answer the phone when you got a sudden case of FOMO. 😬📞

Let’s talk about why that’s not just unfair - it’s wrong. 🚫

Real Talk: Do YOU Work for Free? 💼

Buyers, you need to hear this: your agent is not a free tour guide. A good buyer’s agent spends hours setting up showings, researching listings, coordinating with sellers, reviewing disclosures, preparing offers, and negotiating on your behalf. And they don’t get paid a dime unless you actually buy a house with them.

Now imagine this - you go into your job, your boss says, “Hey, just work today for free. We’re not paying you unless we feel like it later.” Would you agree to that? No? Then don’t expect your Realtor to either. 🙅‍♀️💸

The Legal Side: You’re Supposed to Sign 🖊️📃

Let’s be crystal clear - it is against real estate law in many states for an agent to show you a home without a signed buyer agency agreement. That agreement spells out the working relationship between you and your agent. Hate the idea of signing something? Then you’re not serious about buying a house. Period. ❗

That agreement is what keeps everything transparent and ethical. It protects the agent from wasting their time, and it protects you from getting pulled in ten different directions by ten different people. You wouldn’t hire two lawyers to represent you in the same case - so don’t “try out” multiple agents at once either. ⚖️

A Word on Ethics (and Courtesy) 🤝

A colleague of mine - a phenomenal agent and genuinely good human being - recently had a buyer go silent after she missed his call. She called back five minutes later, texted, and left a voicemail. No response. Hours later, he tells her he already saw the house… with another agent. 😑

Luckily for her, the other agent didn’t have legal footing thanks to recent law changes, and she was able to retain the client. But the principle still stands: don’t ghost your Realtor. Don’t ditch them over a five-minute delay. That’s not a good reason. That’s not loyalty. That’s you being impulsive and inconsiderate. 🚩

Agent Hopping Hurts Everyone 💔

When buyers start jumping from agent to agent:

  • The original agent loses time, energy, and money they’ll never recover. ⏳💸

  • The “lucky” new agent might get a sale they didn’t earn, which creates resentment in the industry. 😠

  • You, the buyer, are sabotaging your own experience. Because the agent you betray might’ve been the one who would’ve fought for you the hardest. 🛡️

Don't Hire a Random. Hire the Right One. 🎯

Zillow, Realtor.com, and other sites connect you with agents who are available, not necessarily who are qualified. Just because someone answers the phone doesn’t mean they’re the best person to represent your interests. 📲

If your current agent is unresponsive, unskilled, or unavailable consistently, then yes—it’s fair to make a change. But if you’ve found a professional who communicates, shows up, and genuinely wants to help you? Don’t throw that away over impatience.

Here’s the Bottom Line: ✍️

If you find a good agent - loyal, experienced, responsive, and ethical - stick with them. Don’t be a jackass and hire someone else behind their back just because they didn’t answer you the second you called. 🙃

Because when you do that, you’re not just hurting them - you’re hurting yourself. 😕

Why? Because that “random” agent who happens to be available might not be qualified, invested, or even competent. You don’t know their track record. You don’t know if they’ll negotiate well, or protect your best interests. You just know they picked up the phone. 📞🤷‍♀️

Meanwhile, the agent who’s already earned your trust and shown their commitment to you gets tossed aside over a moment of inconvenience. And that’s not just tacky - it’s disrespectful. 🙄

You want focused. You want fierce. You want someone who’s invested. 💪🦁

You want YOUR Realtor. Not just a random name on Zillow. 🏠🚀
