Dear Angry Neighbors: No, I Didn’t Hand-Pick Your New Nightmare
👀 You hear the moving trucks pull in. You peek through the blinds. A new family is unloading their furniture, and suddenly, the sinking feeling hits - you hate them already.
A few weeks later, you’ve confirmed your worst fears. They’re loud. Their lawn looks like a jungle. 🌿 They have six cars and use your driveway like an overflow lot. 🚗🚗🚗 And worst of all? You know exactly who to blame.
That sneaky, money-hungry 💰 real estate agent who sold the house.
So you pick up the phone 📞, ready to give them an earful.
⛔ Stop Right There.
Before you call me (or any other listing agent) to rage about your terrible new neighbors, let me tell you something:
❌ I didn’t pick them.
❌ I don’t even know them.
🏡 How Real Estate Actually Works (Since Apparently, No One Knows)
When a home goes up for sale, buyers submit offers. Those offers include things like purchase price 💵, financing details 🏦, and contingencies 📝. What they don’t include?
✅ A personality test 🤔
✅ A background check on their lawn-mowing habits 🚜
✅ A list of references from former neighbors 🙃
99% of the time, I never even meet the buyers. My job is to present offers, negotiate the best possible terms for my seller, and get the deal closed. If the numbers add up and everything looks good on paper, that’s it.
💰 No, We Don’t Sell to “The Highest Bidder Just for the Money”
I know what you’re thinking. “You sold it to them because they had the highest offer! You don’t care who moves in as long as you get paid!”
Here’s the truth: Sellers don’t always pick the highest offer. Sometimes they pick the best overall offer - the one with the best terms, the fewest contingencies, or the fastest closing. Either way, the listing agent doesn’t make the final decision.
I don’t sit in a dark room, rubbing my hands together like a villain 🦹♀️, plotting how to make your life miserable by placing the worst possible neighbors next to you.
🤬 Who You Should Actually Be Mad At
If you hate your new neighbors, let me redirect your frustration to the real culprits:
🔥 Your new neighbors. They are grown adults who lack self-awareness. Nobody forced them to blast music at 2 AM 🎶, hoard trash in the yard 🗑, or treat your street like a demolition derby 🚧. Their behavior is 100% on them.
🔥 Your HOA (if you have one). If your neighborhood has rules about noise, parking, or general upkeep, take it up with them. That’s what they’re there for.
🔥 The universe. Because sometimes, bad luck just happens. 🌍
✋ Final Thoughts
I get it. Bad neighbors are a nightmare. 😩 But if you’re going to call me months later, demanding to know why I “let these people” move in, let me save you the trouble:
🚫 I don’t know them.
🚫 I didn’t choose them.
🚫 And I can’t evict them for you.
So, unless you want to buy every home around you and hand-pick your own neighbors, you might just have to invest in some noise-canceling headphones 🎧 and accept that real estate doesn’t work the way you think it does.
You’re welcome. 😉
