Workin' for the Weekend: Does Your Realtor Have the Work Ethic You Deserve? 🤝
So, you hired an agent - maybe they popped up first in a basic search. Maybe you went with the one whose postcards and emails flood your mailbox. Or perhaps it’s the one who’s always chit-chatting in your local Facebook group. But let’s be real - are you hiring based on who just happens to be in front of you, or are you hiring based on work ethic?
Sending out a few mailers and emails shows some work ethic, sure. But a lot of realtors do that. Let’s break it down.
The Harsh Truth: Most Agents Aren’t Working for You
🚫 The Do-Nothing Agents: These agents sit back and expect clients to fall into their laps. They rely on their name randomly popping up on a company website or wait for the brokerage’s lead rotation to hand them business. That’s not work ethic - that’s luck. (👎)
📬 The Postcard & Mailer Agents: These agents at least invest some money into their marketing. They send out postcards, flyers, and emails, hoping to stay top-of-mind. That’s fine - but getting a postcard from an agent shouldn’t be the reason you hire them. A recognizable name doesn’t equal results.
🔥 The Hustlers (A.K.A. Me) I am the agent who is still grinding in the office long after it closes (come and see me - I’ll leave the light on!). I’m there on the weekends, while the so-called “top producers” are nowhere to be found. Most agents treat real estate like a 9-to-5 job - they clock in, clock out, and expect clients to come to them.
Meanwhile, I’m in the office until 10 PM, sometimes later. And weekends? Crickets.
Newer agents, especially, should be fighting for desk time, putting in the work to generate leads. But they don’t - because most think real estate is easy money. They expect business to just happen. Will you be the client they ignore because they don’t feel like working late? Will they even host their own open house or just outsource it to someone else? (Hint: I covered this in my Open House Secrets blog - go check it out!).
How to Spot a Deadbeat Agent Before It’s Too Late
Hiring an agent shouldn’t be easy. You deserve more than someone who only responds because they see dollar signs. Here’s how to test their real work ethic before you hire them:
📞 Call their office at night. Do they answer? Or do they leave you hanging until the next business day?
⏰ Call before they open. Are they up and working, or do they sleep in?
📅 Call on the weekends. Are they available when you need them, or only during “normal” hours?
An agent who treats you like a priority before you hire them is the agent who will go to the ends of the earth for you after you hire them.
Who Do You Want Fighting for You?
Do you want the agent who goes dark after 6 PM and barely puts in the effort? Or do you want the hustler, the crazy person who will return your calls when you text them in a cold sweat at 11 PM because you think you left your front door open before moving?
I’m not the agent who sits around waiting. I’m the one outworking everyone else. And if that’s what you want in your corner, 📞 Just Call Jenn.
(Case in point: I am already in the office grinding and it's not even 8a on a Saturday)
